How does somebody tell if their spouse is cheating? It’s a difficult question to answer, and one that our clients ask quite often. The simple fact is that if a spouse is cheating it’s rarely discovered in the act. Most individuals who are that careless would not have even made it to the alter without getting busted. Usually, it’s an accumulation of circumstantial evidence that is collected over time until there is an event that provides solid proof of the cheating. However, you don’t need stone cold proof – such as a video or photo – to prove adultery in the court of law, or to yourself. The bottom line is when individuals are together for a long period of time and one spouse thinks the other is cheating, they are usually right.
But how do you know if your concerns are real? Or is just a product of you being jealous, silly or petty? The team at the Edmunds Law Firm have put together some of our observations to help you look for concrete clues other than “something not feeling right”. Obviously when you are married to someone for a number of years and they change towards you in an intimate way, you can sense it, and you will know it, but that’s very hard to quantify and describe. In other words your feelings are not enough. This article should assist you in taking an honest look at what has been happening so that you can be honest with yourself and your relationship.
Here is the first batch of items to look for as put together by the divorce attorneys in our San Diego law office:
- Is your spouse altering their internet usage or computer habits? Are they using their home email address or switching to another account? Have they taken an interest in social networking sites like Facebook? Social media has exploded for the last few years, and there is an opportunity for your spouse to connect with potential suitors via the web.
- Is there a new interest in personal appearance such as a sudden loss of weight, starting a new exercise regimen or tanning, or purchasing a new wardrobe? It may not mean anything, but then again, you should definitely take note.
- Is your spouse talking on the phone more than usual and are the calls discreet? Have you noticed more texting, or have they recently started texting when they didn’t do it in the past?
