Investigation Preparation

The Edmunds Law Firm has an outstanding record of helping people prepare for a national security clearance investigation. The process for receiving national security clearance approval is both meticulous and daunting. The federal government is exceedingly thorough in investigating applicants who apply for positions requiring national security clearance.

Our firm can help you prepare for such an investigation. An investigation begins with an exhaustive application form that will ask you questions including:

  • Where have you lived in the past five years and the name of a person who knew you at each address (not a relative)
  • Where you went to school
  • Your employment activities
  • Your employment record
  • Medical history, including any history of mental illness
  • Your police record
  • Public record civil court actions
  • Use of drugs
  • Use of alcohol
  • Your credit history
  • Three people who know you well, live in the U.S., are not your relatives, and with whom you've been associated for seven years; these can include good friends, peers, colleagues or college roommates.
  • Names and addresses of your current and, if any, former spouses, parents, brothers, sisters and other relatives

Investigators will contact acquaintances, friends, family, former spouses, and present and past employers. In addition to reviewing the information you put on the form, investigators will verify that information and independently validate such issues as your credit records, school information or criminal history. They will interview your neighbors, friends and family, including divorced spouses.

In other words, this background check is exhaustive. The lawyers at The Edmunds Law Firm have more than 30 years of experience helping people successfully pass through this gauntlet of investigations.

Our attorneys travel throughout the United States, helping national security clearance applicants prepare for this most thorough investigative process. We are particularly familiar with this complicated legal challenge.
