A new military law passed Thursday will provide veterans and servicemembers with new benefits including housing, insurance, and other needs.
The new legislation known as the ‘Veterans' Housing Opportunity and Benefits Act of 2006' is aimed to enhance the lives of military veterans by providing grants for housing and other benefits.
“Provisions of this legislation will help improve the lives of servicemembers returning from the Global War on Terrorism, especially those who have severe disabilities,” said the bill's sponsor, Sen. Larry Craig.
The grants available to veterans will range from $2,000 to $14,000. Other benefits offered under the new legislation include:
• Allows completely disabled veterans two years from the separation date to apply for a premium-free life insurance policy.
• Allow completely disabled veterans to change their life insurance policy within the first two years after separation date.
Offers more job opportunities to veterans of the Global War on Terrorism.
