Link Between Emails and Divorce

New reports claim that 88 percent of American Matrimonial Lawyers say they have seen an increase in the number of divorce cases using electronic data as evidence in the past few years.

Evidence found via emails, text messages and social networking sites such as MySpace and The Facebook have supposedly caught people doing everything from cheating to hiding property.

Caught by Computer

According to divorce lawyers throughout the country, snooping in marriage has become so prevalent throughout the country that many companies are now making software specifically intended to spy on spouses.

“People will leave things on the computer that you would never leave lying around on the coffee table,” explains James Hennenhoefer, a family attorney in Vista, CA. “It’s astounding, it’s almost as if they want to get caught.”

Email Snooping Becomes Common

A survey that was recently conducted by Google showed that 27 percent women and 21 percent of men have admitted to snooping on someone else’s computer.

MySpace and Facebook pages are reportedly at the forefront of this new “snooping” craze.

“It’s amazing what people put in there about themselves and their business,” explains family-law specialist, Marlene Moses. “There’s a disconnect for people. For some reason, people are under the mistaken impression that the electronic data is safe.”
